Mary Engle

LPC

Katy Office
Prior to my work as a Christian counselor, I have worked in the public school system as a school counselor for 12 years, and a classroom teacher for 11 years.   Most of my experience in working with children, adolescents and adults has been in dealing with ADHD, Aspbergers, abuse, grief, trauma, stress issues related to both home and school, family issues, parenting issues, depression, unwanted same sex attraction, and the inability to make and keep close friendships and other life struggles.

I believe it is important that you know the philosophy I take in addressing life issues.  I have found in my own personal recovery that my relationship with the Lord is of utmost importance.  In stating that, I want to emphasize that it is important to me to be sensitive to my clients on where they are spiritually and to meet them at their own place in their recovery process.  I look at my clients from the perspective of four sides:  the spiritual, mental, physical and emotional side.  I have found when any one of those sides is out of balance, it makes it difficult to be resilient when life is challenging.  I look forward to working with you in the healing journey!

I have a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Masters of Arts in Counseling.  I am a certified as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas.  I am also a certified equine psychotherapist through EGALA.  (Equine Psychotherapy is a non-riding form of therapy that uses horses in the therapeutic process.)  I have over 150 hours of training in play therapy that includes a focus on working with the issue of grief, using animals in therapy, parent training, and therapy with teens and art therapy.  I am also a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors and the Association of Play Therapy.

In creating my own sense of balance, I have many hobbies and interests that intertwine with my interactions with clients.  Two of my hobbies that influence how I see life are quilting and digital scrapbooking.  A quilt’s true beauty shines when all the pieces of fabric are sewn together.  Like a quilt, when all the pieces of our experiences are put together the mystery of the good and the bad creates a pallet of beauty.   I use digital scrapbooking to create poetry and stories.  When the pictures and words come together it is amazing to see the meaning of who I am as a beloved child of God.  I also have a tremendous passion for animals.  In my own personal recovery, I have learned an aspect of love through the love of God’s creatures, especially my dogs.  I currently have a miniature dachshund named Mercy that is being trained to use in animal assisted psychotherapy.  Some other hobbies that I have are traveling, reading, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and riding my bike.
