Dick started counseling in 1982. He has over 25,000 hours of hearing the life struggles of individuals in pain. He keeps things simple. His basic premise for why people seek help with their personal issues is: "relational pain and discord creates a natural motivation within one's heart to seek other strategies of dealing with life." He approaches individuals with compassion and a genuine desire to relate to them at their point of pain. "There's no need to pull or push people toward a solution or run the Bible down their throat" says Dick. He prefers to walk with them, understand where they are coming from in their interpretations of what is happening to them, confront with insightful questions and help with generating options. He says he enjoys the process of therapy because of its authentic quality - "the therapy room is one place where people can truly express their deepest thoughts and still be OK." Dick is married to Bev, another HCCC therapist. They have two children and five very active grandchildren.
