Hello! My name is Dora and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Social Worker. I obtained a B.A. from West Texas State University and a Master degree in Psychology from Houston Baptist University. My work with families dates back to 1976 when I worked as a Social Worker with the State in different programs including the field of child protection. The most rewarding work within that setting took place in 1986 when I became a Supervisor of volunteers and Casemanager of Family Outreach Fort Bend. The program strengthened families and prevented abuse and neglect to children through several innovative and cost effective interventions. I joined HCCC in June 2000, after retiring from the State.

In addition to my counseling job, my husband Omar Daniel and I are involved in premarital, marital, and parenting workshops in the Spanish language churches in the Houston and surrounding areas. I have been reaching out to young people with the PEERS program to teach relational and communication skills with this segment of the population. I am also trained in Trauma Resolution Therapy, Critical Incident Stress Management and EMDR. I am a Registered Play Therapist and see many young children and adolescents in my practice.

I view counseling as an open door for the Lord to begin his healing work in the lives of people. It is good to know He can put the pieces together when the puzzle of life gets too complicated for us to figure out. He promises "My Presence will go with you and I will give you rest." Yet, I meet people where they may be in their life and faith journey and help them work through their issues at their pace and understanding.

I am originally from Argentina, where I pursued a degree in Special Education. I came to the States in 1966 to work along with my husband of 40 years in the ministry to Spanish speaking congregations in Texas. We have two married daughters and three beautiful grandchildren.

Hola, mi nombre is Dora y soy Consejera Profesional Licenciada y Asistente Social Licenciada por el Estado de Texas. Obtuve mi Licenciatura de West Texas State University y una Maestría en Psicología de Houston Baptist University. Comencé a trabajar con familias en 1976 en diferentes programas incluyendo la protección infantil. El género de trabajo que más satisfacción trajo a mi vida en el ambiente de una agencia pública, ocurrió en 1986 cuando tuve el privilegio de ser supervisora de voluntarios y administradora del programa de Familiy Outreach en el condado de Fort Bend. Este programa proveía apoyo y guía a familias para prevenir situaciones de abuso y negligencia con intervenciones innovativas y de bajo costo. Al retirarme del Estado en el año 2000, commencé a trabajar con el Houston Center for Christian Counseling.

Aparte de mi trabajo como consejera, mi esposo Omar Daniel y yo conducimos presentaciones y talleres premaritales, maritales, y de educación para padres en diferents iglesias de habla hispana en Houston y zonas aledañas. También dirijo grupos para adolescentes usando el material PEERS, que ayuda a los jóvenes a aprender mejores formas de relacionarse con diferentes personas en sus vidas. Estoy entrenada en Terapia de Resolución de Trauma, en Critical Incident Stress Management (Manejo del Estrés en Eventos Críticos) y en EMDR (Desensitización y Reprocesamiento por el Movimiento Ocular). Soy Terapista Infantil y veo a muchos niños y adolescents en mi práctica.

Percibo el trabajo de consejería como una puerta abierta por la cual el Señor comienza su trabajo de sanidad en la vida de las personas. ¡Qué bueno es saber que El puede poner las piezas del rompecabezas de la vida juntas, cuando ésta se hace muy complicada y no sabemos como armarla! El promete "Mi Presencia irá contigo y te daré descanso," A la vez, me gusta ayudar a las personas adonde quiera que se encuentren en su viaje de fe y por la vida, para que obtengan la guía de acuerdo a su comprensión y nivel espiritual, emocional e intelectual.

Soy originalmente de Argentina, y me identifico con las luchas, las pérdidas y los logros del inmigrante. En Argentina obtuve mi título de Maestra de Educación Especial. Junto a mi esposo llegué a Estados Unidos en 1966 para trabajar en el ministerio a congregaciones de habla hispana, desde el Valle de Texas hasta Amarillo. Tenemos dos bellas hijas casadas y tres preciosos nietos.
