Clinical Areas of Focus

Dena Chuang

M.A., LPC

No matter what your past or present may be, there is hope for you. It is my privilege as a counselor to journey with you and see God’s grace, truth, and comfort bring healing and transformation in your life. I hold firmly to a biblical world-view, however, I enjoy working with clients regardless of their spiritual background. I am also sensitive to the specific nuances of each client’s culture and social environment. I honor who and where you are and will work with you towards goals that we set together.

I have experience working with clients on a broad range of concerns including identity and self-worth, -relationships, life transitions, depression, anxiety, and trauma. I find that a multi-faceted approach is best, taking mind, body, heart, and spirit into account. As appropriate, we will work on practical changes in the present and underlying issues which may be rooted in the past. I use a variety of treatment approaches, including EMDR, which is particularly effective in treating trauma-based issues. I am also a certified PREPARE/ENRICH facilitator for dating, engaged, and married couples.

In addition to these areas of clinical focus, I have a heart for working with people in ministry, missionaries, and their families. Having grown up with parents in ministry and having personal experience in ministry and as a missionary overseas, I see God using my current role as a counselor to support those in ministry roles, dealing with such issues as loneliness and isolation, perseverance vs. burnout, impact on the family, living cross-culturally, crisis, debriefing, and re-entry.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have completed a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling and a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies, both at Dallas Theological Seminary. My undergraduate degree is in mathematics from the University of Michigan. I am happily married. I enjoy rich relationships with family and friends, discipling women, and being a life-long learner. I have traveled to 25 different countries and am currently trying to explore more of the United States.
