I am a native Houstonian and grew up going to Houston area public schools. I graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Masters in Counseling, and I hold a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston-Downtown. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor - Intern, supervised by Dr. George Grimes and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor -Intern.
I am a fervent believer in Jesus Christ. Through God’s grace, He has blessed me with a passion and desire to counsel and help those who are in need. As all of us, my own story plays a big part in what I bring to the counseling room. I believe every individual has a unique story to tell. I strive to listen attentively and provide a safe open environment to process and work through deep issues. While I do my best to relate to each client, I believe you are the expert in your own life, and I am here to learn from you as well. I collaborate with my clients to discover avenues leading to lasting change.
In addition to time honored methods of clinical intervention, I weave in other techniques based on the burgeoning research regarding our body-mind intelligence. I am passionate about the process and potential for therapy. I respect the capacity of my clients to take charge of and align their lives with their chosen vision and goals, and a rewarding aspect of this work for me is seeing that happen.
I am passionate about working with adolescents and adults with depression, anxiety, and substance abuse issues. I have worked in a dual diagnosis substance abuse-mental health program, a hospital program and an alternative peer group for adolescents working at success in overcoming substance abuse habits and addictive issues. In addition, I have also worked with a non-narcotic pain management clinic. I recently received my license as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor-Intern (LCDC-I).
I am a health and wellness enthusiast. I see the mind and body holistically connected. Thus, I love going to the gym. I am also an avid reader, and lastly, I love baseball!
As a Christian, I turn my day over to Him every day. I pray to do His will and ask for His guidance in all that I do. In everything I do and say, I try to honor God. I like engaging with my clients. I counsel from a Christian perspective. In addition to my faith, what approach I take to my client’s presenting problem/challenge is very dependent on the client and the interventions I think appropriate at the time. Therefore, the therapeutic techniques and tools I select are specific to each client. It is my belief that the relationship between the client and the therapist is the most powerful component in successful counseling. My goal is to see each client as Christ sees them which is a valuable image bearer, worthy of respect and understanding your design. I strive for the counseling setting to be one of one of trust, acceptance, and developing a plan for the future.
I believe we are to be God’s ambassadors in our dealings with others and that God is using me to confirm to people that He is at work bringing hope and restoration in the midst of life’s challenges.
