Clinical Areas of Focus

I am a person-centered therapist, certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I believe individuals have the resources within themselves for self-understanding and with the help of the tools that CBT provides, I will actively work with you to help you recover from the distress you are dealing with and help you begin to live your life with joy and contentment. My approach to therapy is strongly influenced by Biblical teaching, such as stated in Acts 2:38, where “repent” means to change one’s mind (Strong's Concordance).

I specialize in what is called Third Wave CBT. Third wave methods emphasize mindfulness, emotions, acceptance, relationships, values, goals, and meta‐cognition (thinking about what you are thinking). This approach to therapy helps me provide effective treatment for not only the full range of psychiatric disorders, including addiction (both chemical and behavioral addictions), depression, generalized anxiety, panic, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, couples problems and family issues, but also for quality of life and existential issues. My approach is also effective with adolescents who are troubled by ADHD, behavioral issues, poor self-image, low self-worth, screen addictions, and poor motivations.

I have discovered in my clinical practice that by using the right kind of cognitive reappraisal techniques, I can help my clients replace old unhealthy thought patterns and habits with new healthy ones, which allows unlocking potential by becoming more aware of who you are and who you want to be. My goal as a therapist is to help you gain insight, healing and personal growth by providing a safe and supportive environment and helping you understand the relationships between your thoughts, feelings and actions.

I strongly believe that individuals who are in distress will improve when they feel a therapeutic connection with the therapist they choose. That connection and the start of a therapeutic relationship will be evident from our very first session. In the sessions that follow, you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings and get the assistance you need with whatever issues you may have in your life, as we work collaboratively toward achieving your treatment goals.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with the State of Texas, and a member of the American Counseling Association.
