I have worked with many individuals and families beset by addiction, trauma, marital conflict, domestic violence, life decisions, grief, and loss since 1993. I have practiced professional Christian counseling full-time since 2013. Previously, I served as an associate pastor for a large evangelical church for 15 years in various pastoral leadership functions. The last several years provided opportunities to focus specifically on family-of-origin wounding, military combat trauma, physical / sexual trauma, addictive / compulsive behaviors, career burnout, depression, and anxiety.

Every human being is fashioned by God as a unique entity with a one-of-a-kind outlook on relationships and the world. Our individual stories are sacred and unique to our experience. Many obstacles to living as a full expression of our identity stem from getting out of touch with the totality of our story, especially if there exists pain and loss. Therapeutically, my role is to journey with you through the “badlands” of your story and into the wide and open destiny and purpose for which you were created. While I invest heavily in the emotional experience of exploring the story, I recognize my function as a companion and a guide rather than merely a source of advice and opinion. The incoming assumption is that you have everything you need to recover your own heart with a little bit of help along the way.

My preferred areas of emphasis include recovery from addiction, trauma resolution including PTSD and complex trauma, anxiety, depression, career burnout, grief, loss, and marriage / family problems.

I hold a Master’s in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, completed in 2016. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor - Supervisor in the State of Texas.

My wife Karen and I have been married since 1992. We raised two children who are now in their twenties, one a bush pilot in Alaska and the other studying to counsel children. My interests include music, carpentry, hunting, and being on the ocean.
